Shamli: The arrest of Nauman Ilahi, an agent spying for Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI, has exposed a well-planned anti-national network in North India. Nauman, who was working in Panipat, Haryana, originally hails from Kairana in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh. On Friday morning, Panipat's Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and local police raided his house in Kairana and seized documents, digital devices and passports along with videography of his whereabouts. 50 numbers of Pakistan were found saved in the phone recovered from Nauman's house, many of which are said to be of ISI agents.
According to Dynamite News correspondent, Nauman was preparing to go to Srinagar under Pakistan's plan 'Operation Sindoor'. Where he had to send information about army activities, movement and deployment to Pakistan. It is clearly mentioned in the chat found from his mobile that he was to be given a huge amount in return for this mission.
He used to contact Pakistani agents every day
Investigation has revealed that Nauman was in contact with ISI agents daily through video calls and messaging. He sent videos and photos of army camps, railway stations and other sensitive places to Pakistan. Police have recovered several screenshots, call recordings and chats from his phone.
Only 8th pass, but expert in technology
Nauman has studied only till class 8, but has deep knowledge of social media and mobile technology. He was collecting sensitive information under the guise of working as a security guard. During interrogation, it was revealed that he had started spying after taking proper training and his only aim was to earn money.
The family distanced itself
After Nauman's arrest, his family is shattered. He was living with his sister Zeenat and brother-in-law Irfan in Panipat, but after his arrest, both of them broke off relations with him. Irfan said, "We have no relation with anyone who betrays the country." Zeenat is mentally very upset and is not even eating food.
Kairana is a growing hub of suspicious activities
It is worth noting that Kairana has been in the news earlier also due to many suspicious activities. In the past years, more than 6 youths have been arrested from here on the charges of having links with terrorist organizations. This area is on the special radar of intelligence agencies.
Nauman's connection with ISI network
The one who connected Nauman to ISI is none other than Iqbal alias Kana, a former smuggler from Kairana and currently the commander of ISI. It was Iqbal who included Nauman in the spying network and gave him the responsibility of preparing agents in Haryana-Punjab.
Iqbal alias Kana: Smuggler of the 90s and now an ISI commander
- 1990: Kairana resident Iqbal and his partner Dilshad Mirza were involved in smuggling of arms and counterfeit currency notes.
- 1993: Delhi Police seized a huge consignment of 276 pistols, in which Iqbal's name cropped up.
- After 1993: Both fled to Pakistan due to police raid.
- Now: In Pakistan, ISI and terrorist organizations Jaish and Lashkar are joining hands to create a network against India.
How did Nauman become an ISI agent?
- Connection: In 2023, Meerut STF caught Iqbal's associate Kaleem. After his arrest, Iqbal needed a new agent. In such a situation, he came in contact with Nauman.
- Specialties: Started working as a passport agent after his father's death. Was the youngest and most independent in the family. His aunts and uncles lived in Pakistan, which made travelling easy.
- Training: He was given complete training to make photos and videos, transfer data and take money. During interrogation, it also came to light that money was demanded from a public service center in Kairana.
- Lakshya: He was given the responsibility of preparing agents in Haryana, Punjab and West UP. He had come to Panipat four months ago and became a security guard.
Investigation of fake passports and digital evidence
Investigation of the documents recovered from Nauman revealed that he has also done the work of making passports and has prepared many suspicious passports. Police is now also investigating whether he used to help anti-national elements by making fake passports.
Sedition case, many agencies engaged in investigation
A case has been registered against Nauman on serious charges like treason, breach of confidentiality and links with foreign powers. The entire case is being jointly investigated by Panipat Police, Military Intelligence and Intelligence Bureau. Nauman is on police remand till May 20 and he is being continuously interrogated.
