This government will ban Hormone Therapy, know why people do such surgery, their identity changes

Hormone therapy is considered a revolutionary development in medical science, but its opposition is also not less, many people resort to this therapy, due to which their appearance and identity changes.

What is Hormone Therapy: Manuel Adorni, spokesman for Argentine President Javier Milei, announced on February 5 that his government has decided to ban hormone treatment and gender-affirming surgery for minors. Authorities will also prevent the transfer of prisoners who change their gender after committing a crime.

Gender Identity Law will change

Adorni said that to implement these changes, the administration will need to modify the Gender Identity Law of 2012. However, people supporting trans rights and lawyers say that these changes will need to be approved by Congress (Argentina's Parliament).

The announcement comes two weeks after Argentine President Javier Mailey's speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he linked "gender ideology" – an anti-trans term – to paedophilia and launched a scathing attack against the "LGBT agenda".

A statement from the presidential communications team described its measures as a "direct fight against gender extremism." Adorni said minors could receive "treatment and surgery to change their bodies" to reflect their identity with their parents' consent - and could ask a judge for permission if their parents refuse. Under the new plans, this would no longer be allowed.

What is hormone therapy?

Many people may have a question in their mind that what is hormone therapy? So let's try to understand it.

Hormone therapy is a medical treatment that involves the use of hormones to align a person's physical characteristics with their gender identity. It is commonly used as part of gender-affirming care for transgender and non-binary people. This therapy usually involves estrogen for transgender women and testosterone for transgender men, causing changes such as deepening of the voice, growth of body hair, breast development, and fat redistribution.

Why do people choose this option?

People opt for hormone therapy and gender change surgery to reduce gender dysphoria, a condition in which a person feels distress due to the mismatch between their gender identity and the sex they were assigned at birth. These treatments help individuals feel more comfortable in their bodies and improve their mental well-being.

Gender-affirming surgery, such as chest reconstruction, facial feminization, or genital reassignment, can make the transition process more smooth. Although not all transgender people opt for surgery, those who do often report greater confidence and less anxiety.

Medical professionals carefully assess candidates before recommending hormone therapy or surgery to ensure they understand the implications and potential risks. This process is extremely personal and life-changing. A person's identity can also change.
