The fear of Guillain-Barre syndrome is increasing among the people in Maharashtra, now the fourth death due to this disease has been detected in the state, so it is important for everyone to be alert.

GBS Death in Maharashtra: The havoc of Guillain-Barre syndrome continues to grow in Maharashtra, with two more deaths due to this immunological nerve disorder reported in the state on January 31, taking the total number of deaths here to 44. The new deaths were reported one each in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune. According to details, a 36-year-old patient died of this syndrome in the area.
How many people have been affected by the disease?
So far, Pune has reported the highest number of GBS virus cases, with 130 people diagnosed with the disease. On January 24, the Maharashtra health department formed a rapid response team (RRT) to investigate the sudden rise in infections, after initially finding 24 suspected cases. Meanwhile, the RRT and PMC health departments continued to monitor the affected areas in the Sinhagad Road area.

News agency PTI quoted an official as saying that a total of 7,215 houses were surveyed, including 1,943 houses in the Pune Municipal Corporation limits, 1,750 houses in the Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits and 3,522 houses in the rural areas of the district.
What is Guillain-Barré syndrome?
Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare condition that causes sudden numbness and muscle weakness, symptoms include severe weakness in the limbs, diarrhoea, etc. According to doctors, bacterial and viral infections usually cause GBS as they weaken the immunity of patients. While GBS spreads among both children and young age groups, it will not cause an epidemic or pandemic, they said, adding that most people will recover completely after treatment, PTI reported.
