Along with food and beverages, laundry is also about to get more expensive. HUL has decided to increase the price of detergent powder in October, making laundry more expensive for the public.

Detergent powder prices are rising
Inflation is steadily rising in the country, with prices rising steadily for both food and everyday items. Recently, Hindustan Unilever (HUL) again raised the prices of several packets of its popular detergent brands, including Wheels, Surf Excel, and Rin, in October.
The company has increased the prices of various products by 2.2% to 7.1%. Significantly, many of these products have seen their prices increased for the second, third, or fourth time this year.
How much have detergent powder prices increased?
The company has increased the price of a 1-kg packet of Wheel Powder from ₹90 to ₹93. The price of a 500-gram packet has increased from ₹46 to ₹47.
Meanwhile, a 1 kg packet of Surf Excel Easy Wash now costs ₹172, up from ₹167. The price of a 500-gram packet has also been increased from ₹85 to ₹87.
Additionally, the price of a 500ml pack of Rin Ala has been increased from ₹90 to ₹95. A 1kg packet of Rin Powder now costs ₹123, down from ₹120 previously. The price of a 500g packet has been increased from ₹61 to ₹63.
Prices have risen several times this year.
However, this isn't the first time HUL has increased the prices of its detergent products. Previously, the company raised the price of Wheel Powder by ₹10. Surf Excel prices have also increased by approximately ₹11 this year. Rin prices have also seen a sharp increase this year.
Wheel, Rin,
and Surf Excel are common detergents. Therefore, a price increase could have a direct impact on households' monthly budgets. Families who regularly purchase large packs will be particularly affected. This means that household expenditures on laundry products may increase slightly in the coming days.
Why are prices rising repeatedly?
The main reason for the rising price of detergents is attributed to the rising cost of raw materials and packaging. According to industry insiders, the price of palm oil has risen by approximately 20-30%. Additionally, packaging costs have risen by approximately 50%. High crude oil prices and tensions in the Middle East have also impacted costs.
