Stroke has become one of the leading causes of death and disability in India. To prevent and control this 'brain attack', the government and health experts have prepared a detailed plan. This plan not only focuses on stroke prevention, but also emphasizes on better treatment and rehabilitation services.

At the recently held 'National Stroke Summit', Punia Salila Srivastava, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said that stroke prevention is the government's priority. She said that in India, 66% of deaths are due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), of which stroke plays a major role. The government has adopted a hub-and-spoke model, under which 500 stroke units have been established across the country. Through this model, proper distribution of resources and special treatment and rehabilitation services will be provided to the patients.

40 thousand cases every year in Punjab

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh termed stroke as a national health crisis. He said that about 40,000 stroke cases are registered every year in Punjab. To deal with this, a comprehensive stroke care pathway has been implemented in Punjab connecting district hospitals and medical colleges. This model ensures that the treatment of any stroke patient does not remain incomplete.

Stroke treatment will become cheaper and quality rich

Mandeep Singh Kumar, Vice President and Managing Director of health technology company Medtronic India, said that collective efforts are needed to make stroke treatment cheaper and quality rich in India. Through 'PRAAN Stroke Registry', efforts will be made to collect data on stroke treatment and develop new health services.

Emphasis on health technology and artificial intelligence

Mandeep Singh said that the main objective of his company is to improve the quality of life of people, reduce pain and restore health. The company focuses on four main areas: medical surgical, cardiovascular (heart related diseases), neuroscience (stroke and brain health) and diabetes management. Medtronic is emphasizing on digital health technology and artificial intelligence (AI). For example, the company has launched an AI-supported product 'Genie' for endoscopy, which can improve early diagnosis and treatment.

Stroke: Stress is becoming the main villain in the young generation

Mandeep Singh said that stroke is no longer a problem of the elderly; it is also rapidly affecting the young generation. The biggest reason behind this is excessive stress. The increasing pressure in career, studies and personal life has had a profound effect on the mental and physical health of the youth. Due to stress, problems like high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat and fatigue are increasing, which can increase the risk of stroke. He has emphasized on the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle. He has said that regular physical activity, proper diet and pollution-free environment are necessary for health. He believes that it is very important to give priority to our health above all other things.
