Women's Premier League 2023: Delhi Capitals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 60 runs in the second match of WPL 2023 played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
Batting first in the second match of the league, Delhi Capitals scored a mammoth score of 223/2 in 20 overs. In response, Royal Challengers Bangalore could only manage a score of 163/8 in the allotted 20 overs.
In the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and decided to bowl first. This decision of Captain Smriti Mandhana proved completely wrong. Delhi's opening pair of Shafali Verma and captain Meg Lanning adopted an aggressive approach from the beginning.
Together they batted in a stormy manner and added 57 runs in the powerplay itself. The pair continued their explosive batting and both the batsmen also shared the first-century partnership of the tournament. During this, Shafali and Lanning also completed their half-centuries. The pair was broken by Heather Knight with a score of 162. Lanning became the victim of the 15th overheater knight by scoring 72 runs.
Shafali was also dismissed in the same over. Shefali scored the highest 84 runs in 45 balls with the help of 10 fours and four sixes. From here on, Marizanne Cap and Jemimah Rodrigues batted furiously and took their team to the biggest score of the season. Cap scored 39 not out in 17 balls and Rodrigues scored 22 not out.
RCB got off to a good start chasing the target. The pair of captain Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine added 41 runs in 4.2 overs. Devine became the victim of Ellis Capsy by scoring 14 runs. Mandhana also went on to score 35 runs in 23 balls.
Ellyse Perry batted quickly and became the victim of Tara Norris after scoring 31 runs in 19 balls with the help of five fours. Norris took three more wickets in quick succession. RCB scored 96/7 with the dismissal of Sobhana Asha (2).
From here on, Heather Knight shared a half-century partnership with Megan Schutt and played some fine shots. Knight played an inning of 34 runs. Shoot remained unbeaten after scoring 30 runs but could not win his team. For Delhi Capitals, Tara Norris took five wickets and Alice Capsy took two wickets.
