South Africa suffered a major setback before the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Team head coach Mark Boucher has decided to resign from his post. Cricket South Africa (CSA) said on Monday that head coach Mark Boucher will step down after the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia. The board said that Boucher has taken this decision for personal reasons and the board respects his decision and extends its best wishes to him for the future.

Boucher took over as the head coach of the South Africa cricket team in December 2019. Under his coach, South Africa won 10 Test matches, including a 2-1 Test series win against India in January this year. The team is currently at number two in the ICC World Test Championship table. Even in limited overs cricket, the team has won 12 ODIs and 23 T20 Internationals so far under Boucher's coach.

Coach Boucher's last series with South Africa will be India's tour, where the Proteas will play a three-match T20I and an equal number of ODIs from September 28 to October 11. Apart from this, his last tournament will be the T20 World Cup, where South Africa has been clubbed with Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. The tournament will run from October 16 to November 13.
