Indian Captain: Former selector is not in favor of making Shubman Gill the captain, said – why so much haste?

In the same year, he has also done the feat of scoring a double century in ODIs. In such a situation, many people believe that young Gill should be handed over the captaincy of Team India. However, former selector Bhupinder Singh disagrees. He says that there should be no haste in giving new responsibility to Gill. He believes that a budding player should be allowed to perform well with the bat first.

Bhupinder said during an interview "I will not rush at this point in time, because we want to see him as the next great batsman of the country. He has that game and personality. In times to come, we can see him as a good captain." I can see it developing as well."

Apart from Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya are candidates to become India's future captain. Of these, Pandya is the only one who has not been a part of the Test team for some time now. Hardik has impressed a lot while captaining Gujarat Titans in the IPL. He has been captaining India's T20 team continuously since the 2022 T20 World Cup. In such a situation, after 36 years of Rohit, it is almost certain that Hardik will become the T20 captain.

Hardik's performance in ODIs has also been excellent and he can be given the responsibility of captaincy in this format as well. In such a situation, the question is of India's next Test captain. Among the current options, Lokesh Rahul is over 30 years old, while Jasprit Bumrah's fitness is a big problem. In such a situation, if Rishabh Pant returns, then he can become the new Test captain of India.
