The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former fast bowler Ajit Agarkar as the new chief selector. Soon after coming to this position, the selection committee headed by Agarkar selected the team for the five-match T20 series against the West Indies. Agarkar is much senior in terms of international career to the rest of the members present on the selection committee. However, he was not ready to take up the position. The biggest reason for this was the salary of the chief selector. However, the BCCI has now decided to increase it to 200 percent. Let's know the whole matter.

The current salary of the chief selector is one crore rupees.
In fact, before joining as the chief selector, Agarkar was the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Before that, he had also held the post of chief selector of Mumbai's senior team. Not only this, he has also been a commentator. In such a situation, his salary as a coach was much higher. Apart from this, he was also associated with many other professional works. As a commentator and coach, he could have earned more than the chief selector. The present salary of the Chief Selector is one crore rupees in a year. Former chief selector Chetan Sharma was getting the same salary.

200 percent increase in Agarkar's salary
According to media reports, the BCCI wanted to make Agarkar the chief selector because of his experience and seniority. Also, the board wanted a selector who had also played T20 in his international career. For this reason, Agarkar was the only person to apply for the position. Agarkar has also been a part of Team India which became T20 champions in 2007. He was meeting all the criteria of BCCI. In such a situation, BCCI did not delay in increasing his salary. According to media reports, the BCCI has agreed to increase the salary for the post of chief selector from Rs 1 crore to Rs 3 crore per annum. That is, there will be an increase of about 200 percent in it. A decision on this will be taken in the BCCI Apex Council meeting on Friday.

Salaries of other selectors will also increase
Agarkar's selection committee includes Shiv Sunder Das, Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee, and S Sharath. It is believed that his salary may also increase. However, there is no update regarding this. The salary of the remaining members of the selection committee is Rs 90 lakh per annum. This can also be discussed in the Apex Council meeting.

The T20 team selected under the leadership of the new chief selector
On Wednesday, the selection committee headed by Agarkar selected Team India for the five-match T20 series against the West Indies. Agarkar also appeared in favor of keeping Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli out of the T20 format. Both of them were not selected against the Windies as well. At the same time, IPL stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Verma have entered the team. At the same time, fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has also been included in the team.

Hardik Pandya will lead the team. Whereas, Suryakumar Yadav will be the vice-captain. Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Mavi, and Deepak Hooda have been dropped from the team due to poor form. Washington Sundar is injured and was unavailable for selection. Team India will play a two-match Test series against the Windies first. After this three-match ODI series and then T20 series will be played.
