Sonia Gandhi, who has always avoided social media, has surprised everyone by finally joining Instagram. But more than her account, her small following list is generating more attention. Find out why.
Sonia Gandhi on Instagram
Sonia Gandhi, the most senior Congress leader and chairperson of the parliamentary party, has finally entered the world of Instagram. At the age of 79, Sonia Gandhi surprised everyone by creating her official Instagram account on Thursday. Until now, she had stayed completely away from platforms like Facebook and Instagram. However, she chose this unique method to share the first glimpse of her upcoming autobiography, Belonging: A Journey of Love.
In her first post, she shared a video in which she can be seen flipping through the pages of her book and feeding sweets to her daughter, Priyanka Gandhi. Let's find out which members of the Gandhi family Sonia Gandhi follows on Instagram, and who is still missing from her list.
Whom is Sonia following in the Gandhi family?
As soon as Sonia Gandhi joined Instagram, people first noticed her following list. Within minutes of creating her account, she gained thousands of followers. However, Sonia Gandhi herself has followed only a select few. Currently, she follows only three accounts on Instagram: those of her son Rahul Gandhi, her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and the official page of the Congress Party.
In her first Reel, she also tagged Rahul, Priyanka, and her book's publisher, HarperCollins India. Speaking of the rest of the Gandhi family, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are already quite active on social media, following each other and frequently sharing memories of their mother, Sonia Gandhi.
From Robert Vadra and grandson Rehan to Varun-Maneka, they are out of the list.
Sonia Gandhi's small following list is missing several prominent figures from the Gandhi family. Sonia Gandhi hasn't yet followed her son-in-law, Robert Vadra, or Priyanka Gandhi's son, her grandson, Raihan Rajiv Vadra. Both Raihan and Robert are quite active on Instagram.
Furthermore, when it comes to other factions of the family, Sonia Gandhi has maintained a distance from her sister-in-law, Maneka Gandhi, and nephew, Varun Gandhi, on Instagram. Due to their political differences, Rahul and Priyanka don't follow Maneka or Varun Gandhi, and now a similar pattern is being observed on Sonia Gandhi's account.
Who among the Gandhi family has the most followers on Instagram?
If we consider the social media popularity of the entire Gandhi family, Rahul Gandhi dominates Instagram. Since the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul's social media reach has exploded, with over 16 million followers on Instagram, making him the most popular figure in the family. His sister and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra come in second.
She is followed by nearly 3 million people, and her every post receives tremendous engagement. Varun Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi also have millions of followers on Instagram, sharing posts about their political and social work. Robert Vadra and young faces Rehan Vadra and Miraya Vadra also have their own fan followings. It remains to be seen how quickly Sonia Gandhi herself will grow in terms of followers after her debut.
