If you're a Rajasthan resident feeling the heat of soaring electricity bills, relief is on the way. The Bhajan Lal-led government has announced a bold step toward energy reform—installing smart electricity meters in every home, completely free of cost. And the cherry on top? A 15 paise per unit discount for consumers who opt for the prepaid billing system.
What’s Changing?
As part of this large-scale initiative, 1.5 crore electricity consumers across Rajasthan will receive smart meters installed at no charge. These meters are aimed at improving billing accuracy and giving consumers better control over their power consumption.
Prepaid = Savings
The government is offering an instant 15 paise/unit discount for those who choose the prepaid meter option—meaning you pay in advance for electricity and enjoy reduced rates. Over time, this could translate into significant savings on your monthly bills.
Smart Meters: More Than Just Numbers
These meters offer a host of benefits:
- Real-time monitoring of power usage
- Better load management, so you can cut unnecessary consumption
- Accurate billing, free from human error
- Fewer complaints, thanks to digital transparency
Plus, consumers can track their usage and file complaints easily via the Bijli Mitra app, with faster response and resolution times promised by the authorities.
