Skin Ageing Causes: Troubled by wrinkles and sagging skin? Remove these 3 harmful foods from your plate today.

How aging affects skin: People are increasingly worried about wrinkles and sagging skin, and they use a variety of products to treat them. Let us tell you what you should reduce on your plate.

Causes of skin aging

Foods That Cause Premature Ageing: If you think skin ageing is only due to age or improper skincare, then this is not entirely true. In an Instagram video, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Pooja Reddy discusses the root cause of many skin problems. She says that some everyday foods damage collagen from within, increase inflammation in the skin, and also have a negative impact on the liver. In her video shared on social media, Dr. Reddy says that there are three worst foods for the skin, and the third one is something you probably eat every day. Let us tell you about them.

High Fructose Corn Syrup

According to Dr. Reddy, she doesn't even consider it a food. It's found in soda, packaged juices, biscuits, sauces, and most junk foods. It's not real sugar, but a synthetic sweetener that causes even more damage to skin proteins than regular glucose. She says it creates AGEs in the body, which break down collagen. This results in rougher skin, faster wrinkles, and liver damage.

Reheated refined oil

She cites the example of how reheating oil at a samosa shop over several days can be harmful. Repeated heating depletes the oil's vitamin E and leaves behind oxidized fats. These fats increase inflammation within the body, which is directly reflected in the skin.

Excessive fried and crunchy foods

The more golden and crispy foods like French fries, fritters, and chips are, the more harmful compounds they contain. Dr. Reddy says that the darker the color and the crispier the crispness, the more AGEs you're consuming. Your cream can't reverse the damage your diet is doing.

What are AGEs, and why are they dangerous?

According to Healthline, they are formed when sugar in the blood combines with protein or fat. Additionally, foods cooked at high temperatures, such as frying, grilling, or toasting, also increase AGEs. Although the body has a process to excrete them, excessive consumption causes them to accumulate, increasing oxidative stress and inflammation. Long-term, they have been linked to diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure, Alzheimer's, and premature aging.
