Failed in class 6
We are talking about IAS Rukmini Riar. Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab in the year 1987, Rukmini Riar was an average student during her schooling. She had also failed in the sixth class. She studied in Gurudaspuram and then in Sacred Heart School, Dalhousie. After this, she did her graduation from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and got her PG degree from Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
She gave UPSC exam in 2011
After her studies, Rukmini did internship with NGOs like Ashodya in Mysore and Annapurna Mahila Mandal in Mumbai. While working with the NGO, she decided to appear in UPSC exam. In 2011, Rukmini Riar gave UPSC exam and in her first attempt, not only she got selected but she also became All India topper. She got second rank. Let us tell you, she did not take any coaching for this exam. Rukmini achieved this success through self study.
This is how she prepared
During an interview, she told that she read NCERT books of class 6-12 to prepare for this exam. She developed a habit of reading newspapers and magazines every day, which helped her a lot in the interview. Apart from this, she gave many mock tests so that she could correct her mistakes. She also used to solve last year's papers.
