Air Drop Feature in Android: Google has great news for Android and iPhone users. File sharing between different platforms is going to be easier than ever. The company has confirmed that the Quick Share feature is now available on several new Android smartphones with AirDrop support. This feature was previously limited to the Pixel 10 series, but is now being expanded to several devices from OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Honor.

Which smartphones have the new feature?

Google released a list of devices currently supporting Quick Share with AirDrop compatibility during its Android Show 2026 event. These include:

  • Samsung Galaxy S26 Series
  • Google Pixel 10 Series
  • Google Pixel 9 Series
  • Google Pixel 8a
  • Oppo Find X9 Series
  • Oppo Find N6
  • Vivo X300 Ultra

Interestingly, Google did not include the Pixel 9a and Pixel 8 series in this list.

Soon, these phones will also get support.

The company also announced that several older flagship smartphones will soon receive this feature. The devices that will receive this feature in the future include:

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 Series
  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Series
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6
  • Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold
  • Oppo Find X8 Series
  • OnePlus 15
  • HONOR Magic V6
  • HONOR Magic 8 Pro

Solution for phones that do not support it

Google has also made special arrangements for users whose smartphones don't yet have this feature. The company is now introducing a QR Code-based sharing system. This feature will allow Android users to generate a QR Code using Quick Share. iPhone or Mac users will then be able to scan the code and download the file directly from their browser. The company says this entire process will be secured with end-to-end encryption, and files will remain available for download for 24 hours.

Integration will also be available in apps like WhatsApp

Google has hinted that Quick Share will be added to third-party apps in the future, including popular apps like WhatsApp. This means that sharing files between Android and Apple devices from within apps could become even easier in the future.

After all, how will this feature work?

This new system allows for direct file transfer between Android and Apple devices. It uses peer-to-peer wireless technology, preventing files from being sent to an external server. If an iPhone or Mac user wants to receive a file from an Android phone, they must enable the "Everyone for 10 Minutes" option in the AirDrop settings. The Android user can then simply open the file, select "Share," select "Quick Share," and send the file to a nearby Apple device.

The distance between Android and iPhone will be less

Until now, file sharing between Android and iPhone was considered one of the biggest problems. But this new combination of Quick Share and AirDrop could significantly bridge the gap between the two platforms. This feature will prove especially useful for users who use devices with different operating systems.
