Saudi Arabia: Dust storm has wreaked havoc in Saudi Arabia. Al Qassim city is covered after the sand storm and warning has been issued in Mecca and Riyadh. But let us know what Islam has to say about this.

Saudi Arabia Dust Storm: Storms are signs of natural weather events. Recently, a severe storm hit Saudi Arabia, causing devastation in many cities including Riyadh. Normal life was disrupted due to dust and sand storm. The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning. Let us know what Islam has to say about natural disasters like storm, hurricane, torrential rain, flood, earthquake etc.

There are about 1600 verses in Islam's holy religious book Quran, out of which 700 verses and hundreds of hadiths of the Prophet mention the environment and nature. The word Earth has been used 485 times in the Quran. According to Islamic belief, Allah has created a beautiful creation and has entrusted the responsibility of its protection to humans. Therefore, exploiting it in any way is a sin and protecting the environment is worship.

What is said in Islam about storms

“The people of Ad also rejected the truth. Then how terrible was My punishment and My warning!

We sent upon them a terrible storm for a very long time, which uprooted the people as if they were uprooted and hollow date trunks.”[54:19-21]

Let us tell you that, Ad community was an ancient Arab community, which is mentioned in the Quran. Allah destroyed Ad community due to their disobedience and sins. Allah also sent Prophet Hud to Ad community to worship God and stay away from bad deeds, but they did not listen to Prophet Hud and kept doing bad deeds and mistakes. Allah punished Ad community with a flood due to strong winds or storms, due to which Ad community was completely destroyed and only the story of its sins remained in history.

Natural disasters are a warning from Allah

In Islam, natural disasters are seen as a warning from Allah to the people. This warning is to stay away from wrongdoings, reflect on your actions and follow the path shown by Allah. Through natural disasters, Allah also tests people's patience, restraint and perseverance.
