In a shocking case from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, a groom’s dream wedding turned into a nightmare when his bride vanished just one day after the ceremony, taking along cash and jewellery worth over ₹1.3 lakh. The bride, who had demanded ₹1.2 lakh from the groom’s family to get married, allegedly drugged her new husband and mother-in-law, and then escaped in the night with an accomplice.
Here’s What Happened:
According to the victim’s family, everything seemed normal during the wedding rituals. The bride was welcomed with traditional customs, and the family was hopeful about the new beginning. But their joy was short-lived.
On the second night, the bride brought milk to the groom and his mother — laced with sedatives. After they fell unconscious, she slipped out of the house in the dead of night and was caught on CCTV footage fleeing on a motorcycle with a man who had been waiting for her.
What She Took:
- ₹1.3 lakh in cash
- Gold and silver jewellery including the engagement ring, anklets, and chains
The house that was filled with the sound of wedding celebrations just hours earlier fell into stunned silence the next morning.
Fake Documents, Fake Family
What stunned the police even more was that:
- The Aadhaar card provided by the bride was fake
- The relatives who had come to attend the wedding as her uncle and aunt turned out to be imposters
This suggests the incident was not random but part of a well-planned con, possibly by an organized gang targeting unsuspecting families through fraudulent marriages.
Police Investigation:
Initially, the police were slow to act, but an FIR was registered after local political pressure. CCTV footage from the area has helped identify the bike and track the escape route. A full-scale investigation is now underway, and authorities suspect that this may not be an isolated incident.
A Bigger Scam?
This case raises serious concerns about a widening network of marriage scams, especially targeting middle and lower-income families. Police are now looking into similar complaints in nearby districts, suspecting this bride may have duped others before.
