Rising Attacks on Bihar Police Raise Concerns Over Law and Order

In recent days, multiple violent incidents targeting Bihar Police have raised serious concerns about the state's law and order situation. Within just five days, police personnel were attacked in five different districts, sparking a heated political debate. Opposition leaders have criticized the state government for its inability to curb the rising attacks.

A Series of Assaults on Police Teams

The incidents have highlighted a growing pattern of aggression against law enforcement officers in Bihar. Here are the major attacks reported in the past week:

  • March 12: A police team was attacked in Araria, resulting in the death of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI).
  • March 14: Another ASI was killed while attempting to resolve a dispute in Munger.
  • March 14: Villagers in Samastipur pelted stones at police personnel.
  • March 15: A violent confrontation in Bhagalpur left five police officers injured.
  • March 16: An inebriated group assaulted police officers in Maner, Patna.
  • March 16: Stone-pelting was reported at Rajauli police station in Nawada.

The repeated attacks suggest that criminal elements in the state are becoming increasingly emboldened, while public confidence in law enforcement appears to be weakening.

Political Backlash and Opposition's Reaction

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has strongly criticized the Bihar government over the escalating violence against police officers. Sharing details of these incidents on social media, RJD accused the administration of failing to maintain law and order.

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav expressed his discontent through a poetic critique, lamenting that while police officers dedicate themselves to ensuring public safety, their families are now mourning their loss. He urged the government to take decisive action before the situation worsens further.

Fear Among Police Personnel

Disturbing visuals have emerged from Maner and Bhagalpur, where police officers were seen fleeing to escape attacks from aggressive mobs. This has raised serious concerns about the declining authority of law enforcement in Bihar.

The situation first escalated in Araria, where an ASI lost his life during a violent confrontation with a mob. Since then, similar attacks have occurred in other districts, undermining the credibility of the police force despite assurances of strict action from senior officials.

As Bihar continues to witness growing hostility towards its police personnel, urgent measures are required to restore law and order and ensure the safety of those who serve to protect the public.
