A dramatic political showdown is unfolding in Bangladesh. Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus, accused of consolidating power with backing from China, Pakistan, and the United States, is now facing growing resistance — not from the streets, but from within the military ranks.
Yunus' Political Ambitions Spark Military Backlash
Since taking power after Sheikh Hasina's ousting, Yunus has delayed national elections and made no clear announcement about when they will be held. His alleged ambitions to secure long-term control by aligning with foreign powers have triggered alarm bells within Bangladesh’s establishment — especially the armed forces.
Yunus’ overtures to China and Pakistan, combined with rumors of American support, suggest he’s crafting a foreign-backed power base. But the Bangladesh Army appears to be pushing back.
Army Signals Intent to Act
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) recently issued a stern warning, stating that “any activity that disturbs public order, goes against national interest, or damages the image of the armed forces will not be tolerated.”
In response to rising law and order concerns, the military has now decided to take control of the national situation, a move that could spell the end of Yunus’ unchecked authority.
