Tension continues to rise across West Bengal following the recent assembly election results, with multiple incidents of violence, arson, clashes, and vandalism being reported from different districts within just a few days after the outcome.
Several politically sensitive areas have witnessed unrest involving alleged supporters of rival parties, prompting heavy police deployment and strict monitoring by election authorities. Reports of attacks on party offices, firing incidents, market vandalism, and political clashes have intensified concerns over law and order in the state.
Violence Reported in Sandeshkhali Area
One of the most serious incidents was reported from the Bamangheri area of Sandeshkhali under the Sarberia-Agarti Gram Panchayat region.
According to reports, political tension escalated late Tuesday night when a police team accompanied by central security forces was conducting patrol operations in the area.
During the patrol, unidentified miscreants allegedly opened fire on security personnel. The firing reportedly left three security personnel injured and triggered panic in the surrounding region.
The incident has further increased tensions in Sandeshkhali, which has already remained politically sensitive in recent months.
BJP Worker Allegedly Beaten to Death in Newtown
Another major incident was reported from the Newtown area near Kolkata, where a BJP worker was allegedly beaten to death on Tuesday.
According to allegations, supporters linked to All India Trinamool Congress were involved in the attack. However, official confirmation regarding the exact circumstances and responsibility is still awaited.
The death triggered anger among family members and local residents, leading to further unrest in the area.
Police reportedly had to resort to lathi-charge measures to disperse crowds and control the situation.
TMC Office Set on Fire in Howrah
Violence was also reported from Jagatballavpur in Howrah, where a local Trinamool Congress office was allegedly set on fire during political clashes.
Visuals and reports circulating online suggested significant damage to the party office following the arson incident.
Authorities are currently investigating the matter and monitoring the region closely to prevent further escalation.
Major Vandalism Reported in Kolkata Market Area
Fresh unrest also reportedly broke out in the Hogg Market area of Kolkata, where incidents of vandalism and clashes were reported.
Apart from Kolkata, political violence and arson-related incidents were also reported from:
- Jalpaiguri
- South 24 Parganas
- Asansol
Reports suggest clashes occurred between supporters of the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party in several areas.
Election Commission Takes Strict View
Following the violence, Gyanesh Kumar reportedly took a strict stance and directed authorities to take immediate action against those involved in violence and vandalism.
The Chief Election Commissioner instructed senior state officials, including:
- Chief Secretary
- Director General of Police (DGP)
- Kolkata Police Commissioner
- Director General of Central Armed Police Forces
to remain on high alert and closely monitor the situation.
District collectors, police superintendents (SPs), and local law enforcement officials have also reportedly been directed to intensify patrol operations and maintain strict surveillance in sensitive areas.

In response to the unrest, police and central forces have reportedly increased security presence in several districts.
Authorities are focusing on:
- Preventing retaliatory attacks

Officials have also warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals involved in violence, arson, or property damage.

Post-election violence in the state often leads to:
- Party office attacks

Officials have emphasized that those found responsible for:
- Violence
