Following alleged irregularities totalling ₹11.24 crore at the Greater Noida branch of PNB, the employee union has demanded an audit of all 10,500 branches across the country. Learn about the entire matter and who will be prosecuted.

PNB Branch Audit Demand: 10,500 PNB branches under scrutiny
Following the alleged fraud at a Punjab National Bank branch in Greater Noida, questions have now been raised about the security of other branches. The unauthorized transfer of funds from customers' savings accounts and fixed deposits has raised concerns about the banking system.
Meanwhile, the PNB employees' union has demanded that the bank management audit its approximately 10,500 branches across the country. The union says that simply suspending employees will not resolve the problem. It is important to examine the reasons behind such irregularities.
What is the PNB Greater Noida case?
Several customers at the Greater Noida PNB branch complained that money was missing from their savings and fixed deposits. Initial complaints revealed an alleged loss of over ₹11.24 crore from the accounts of 21 individuals. Some customers claimed even more money had been lost or transferred. However, there is no official confirmation of this.
Who is accused?
In this case, a female bank employee is accused of colluding with outsiders to commit fraud. She allegedly used the passwords of other officials, including the branch manager, to transfer money from customers' accounts without permission.
Following the incident, the bank suspended several employees and contacted the CBI for investigation. The bank is assuring customers that their money will be refunded. As of October 28, ₹4.3 million has been paid out in three claims.
Why does the union want an audit?
On October 30, the All India Punjab National Bank Officers' Federation wrote to the bank's Managing Director and CEO demanding an impartial audit of its approximately 10,500 branches across the country. The union says the bank should examine the number of employees in each branch.
The organization also called for a review of current staffing regulations, arguing that overwork and understaffing at a branch could impact both bank operations and security.
Why no action against the branch manager?
The union has stated that it is unfair to hold only the branch manager or lower-level employees responsible for any discrepancies. The bank's corporate office, zonal and circle offices should also be investigated. The organization wants to check whether employees received proper training on banking systems, cash management, security regulations, and fraud prevention methods.
The union says that if negligence or wrongdoing by any employee is proven, strict action should be taken against them. However, hasty action without investigation will not prevent such incidents from happening again.
