To protect pickles from fungus, you can add a teaspoon of citric acid or use a teaspoon of vinegar. This prevents fungus from growing in pickles. When you make pickles initially, do not put a lid on the container, instead cover it with a cotton cloth and put the lid on after exposing it to sunlight for a few days.
