Digital payments have become a part of everyday life in India, and now even teenagers are stepping into the world of online transactions. Keeping this growing trend in mind, Paytm has introduced a new feature called “Paytm Pocket Money,” designed especially for teenagers who do not yet have their own bank accounts.
The newly launched feature allows students and young users to make UPI payments directly through the Paytm app while giving parents full control over spending limits and transaction monitoring.
What Is Paytm Pocket Money?
Paytm Pocket Money is a new digital payment feature that enables teenagers to make online and offline UPI payments without needing a personal bank account.
The system works through NPCI’s UPI Circle framework, allowing parents or family members to link and manage a teenager’s spending account securely.
According to the company, the feature is aimed at helping young users learn financial discipline and responsible spending habits from an early age.
Key Benefits of the New Feature
With Paytm Pocket Money, teenagers can:
- Make UPI payments at shops, cafes, stores, and online platforms
- Pay without needing their parents’ phone every time
- Handle small daily expenses independently
- Learn budgeting and money management digitally
At the same time, parents continue to maintain full supervision and control over spending activities.
Parents Will Have Full Control
One of the biggest highlights of the feature is its parental control system.
Parents can:
- Set monthly spending limits
- Track every transaction in real time
- Change spending limits anytime
- Disable access whenever required
This ensures teenagers get financial freedom while maintaining safety and supervision.
Spend Summary Feature Helps Track Expenses
Paytm has also integrated its “Spend Summary” tool into the feature.
The system automatically categorizes expenses into different sections, helping both parents and teenagers understand spending habits more clearly.
This can help families monitor where money is being spent and encourage smarter financial planning.
Spending Limits and Security Features
To improve security and reduce misuse, several spending restrictions have been added.
Transaction Limits Include:
- Maximum monthly spending limit: ₹15,000
- Maximum limit per transaction: ₹5,000
- First 30 minutes after activation: payment limit capped at ₹500
- First 24 hours after activation: total spending capped at ₹5,000
These safeguards are designed to minimize accidental transactions and unauthorized usage.
How to Set Up Paytm Pocket Money
Users can activate the feature by following a few simple steps:
- Update the Paytm app to the latest version
- Open the Paytm app on your smartphone
- Go to the “To Mobile / Contact” section
- Tap on “Pocket Money”
- Select the person for whom you want to enable the feature
- Scan the UPI QR code or enter the UPI ID
- Complete the required verification process
- Choose your linked bank account
- Enter your Paytm UPI PIN
- Set a monthly spending limit
Once the process is completed, the recipient will receive an invitation that must be accepted before using the service.
Digital Payments Expanding Among Young Users
As India’s digital payment ecosystem continues to grow rapidly, companies are increasingly focusing on features designed for younger audiences.
Experts believe tools like Pocket Money could help teenagers become more financially aware while also reducing dependence on cash transactions.
With UPI already dominating daily payments across the country, features aimed at students and teenagers may become increasingly common in the coming years.
