Rising onion prices have once again raised concerns about common people's kitchen budgets. The retail price of onions nationwide has reached around ₹42 per kg, while in Delhi it's selling for up to ₹65 per kg. However, onions aren't available at the same price in every market in Delhi-NCR; in some areas, they're around ₹25 per kg, while in others, they've reached ₹39 per kg. Azadpur Mandi price
Delhi's Azadpur Mandi is considered one of the largest wholesale onion markets. The current wholesale price of onions here is around Rs 25.31 per kg. According to data from August 21st, onions were sold here for between Rs 17.50 and Rs 32.50 per kg, meaning there is a clear price difference depending on the variety and quality.

The average price of onion in Keshopur Mandi is around Rs 39 per kg. According to data from August 22nd, the lowest price was Rs 22 and the maximum price was Rs 46 per kg. This means there is a significant difference in the prices between Azadpur and Keshopur Mandis, so it's beneficial for those buying onions in large quantities to check the latest prices.
What is the price of onion in Ghazipur Mandi?
On August 23rd, large onions were sold at ₹29 per kg at the Ghazipur vegetable market in East Delhi, while the same onions were selling for ₹32 to ₹38 per kg in the retail market. Meanwhile, the market price of small onions was around ₹50 per kg, while in the retail market it reached ₹55 to ₹65 per kg.
Different rates in Ghaziabad Mandi too
In Ghaziabad, adjacent to Delhi, onion prices vary depending on size and quality. On August 24th, large onions were sold for Rs 33 per kg, while small onions were around Rs 55 per kg. In the retail market, large onions are priced between Rs 36 and Rs 43, and small onions are priced between Rs 61 and Rs 72 per kg.
Steps taken by the government
Amid rising onion prices, the central government is now preparing to increase supply from buffer stocks. To this end, the Kanda Express will be operated to transport onions from Nashik to several cities, including Delhi, to provide relief to areas experiencing high prices.
