A defamation case was filed against Rahul Gandhi for his alleged remarks on the Indian Army. Now the Congress leader has got relief from the Supreme Court in this matter. The Supreme Court has stayed the summons of the Lucknow trial court. The court has issued a notice in the matter and sought a reply. Rahul Gandhi had made alleged remarks on the Indian Army during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in December 2022.

The Supreme Court said that why did you not say this in Parliament and why did you say it on social media? The Supreme Court said that if you are a true Indian then you should not have said this? The Supreme Court said that even though you have freedom of expression, why did you say this. You are a responsible leader. Senior advocate Singhvi said that if he cannot say all this as the leader of the opposition, then what will be the result of this?

“No true Indian would say that”

Justice Dutta said, how did you know when China occupied 2000 square kilometers? What is the reliable information? A true Indian will not say this. Can you say all this when there is a dispute across the border? Why can't you ask questions in Parliament?

In this case, the Supreme Court told Singhvi that you had taken a different line in the High Court. Singhvi said that one way is that you become the leader of the opposition and defame everyone. But it was not like that here. The Supreme Court issued a notice. A stay was imposed. Also, the court sought a reply in three weeks.

In May, the Allahabad High Court had dismissed Gandhi's petition challenging the summons order passed by the MP-MLA court in Lucknow.

What statement did Rahul Gandhi give?

A defamation case was filed against Rahul Gandhi because he made a comment about the army. Rahul Gandhi had said that Chinese soldiers were "beating up Indian soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh." This comment was made during a press conference in Rajasthan in 2022.

The Congress leader had said, people will ask here and there about Bharat Jodo Yatra, Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot etc. But they will not ask a single question about China occupying 2000 square kilometers of Indian land, killing 20 Indian soldiers and beating up our soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh. The Indian press does not ask him a single question about this. A case was registered against him for this statement.

A defamation case was filed against Rahul Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh and a lower court issued summons to him. After this, he filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court demanding cancellation of proceedings and summons.
