No need for a visa or passport... India opened doors for citizens of two neighbouring countries, made this new rule

The Home Ministry said that this provision also applies to Tibetans who have already entered India and are living in the country or are entering India.

 

 

Citizens of Nepal and Bhutan will be allowed to enter India after the implementation of the Immigration and Foreigners (Citizenship) Act, 2025

 

Citizens of Nepal and Bhutan, as well as Indians entering India by road or air from the two neighbouring countries, will not be required to produce passports or visas as before.

 

According to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), after the implementation of the Immigration and Foreigners (Citizenship) Act, 2025, members of the Indian Navy, Army, or Air Force, who enter India or go out of the country on duty, will not be required to hold a passport or visa. Also, family members of such soldiers, when they travel in a government vehicle with such a person, will also not be required to hold a passport or visa.

 

The Home Ministry said, "A valid passport or other valid travel document and a valid visa will not be required for entry, stay and exit from India, provided an Indian citizen enters India by road or air through the border with Nepal or Bhutan, or a Nepali or Bhutanese citizen enters India by road or air through the border with Nepal or Bhutan, or has a valid passport and enters or exits India from any place other than Nepal or Bhutan." The ministry said, "But this exemption will not apply to those traveling from China, Macau, Hong Kong or Pakistan."

This provision also applies to Tibetans who have already entered India and are residing in the country or entering India, provided they have registered with the relevant registration authorities and obtained a registration certificate.

 

According to the ministry, this provision will also apply if they entered India after 1959 but before May 30, 2003 on a Special Entry Permit issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, or if they entered India after May 30, 2003 on a new Special Entry Permit issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu till the date of commencement of the Act through the immigration checkpoint at the Indo-Nepal border designated by the Centre.

Any person belonging to the minority community of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan - Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians, who was forced to take refuge in India due to religious persecution or fear of religious persecution and entered the country on or before 31 December 2024 without valid documents, including passport or other travel documents, or entered the country with valid documents, including passport or other travel documents, and the validity of such documents has expired, will be exempted from the rule of holding a valid passport and visa. This rule will not apply to registered Sri Lankan Tamil citizens who took refuge in India till January 9, 2015.
