Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced that the state will conduct a caste-based census like Bihar. Gehlot spoke to the media after the state party meeting in Jaipur on Friday.

He said - "Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had made a system of caste census in the Raipur session of Congress and on the same basis we will do it here also. Rajasthan government will also conduct a caste census like Bihar. We will follow the concept of the population. There should be participation of people accordingly. CM Gehlot said instructions will be given to conduct a caste-based census on the lines of Bihar.

The report of the caste-based survey conducted in Bihar was released by the Nitish Kumar-led Grand Alliance government on October 2. Congress is an ally of the government in Bihar.

Emphasizing the importance of caste-based census, Ashok Gehlot said, "When we talk about social security, it can be implemented only when we know what the situation is on the basis of caste." There are different castes living in the country who do different jobs, when we know what is the population of each caste, we can make special plans for them.”

Earlier, Congress General Secretary in Chhattisgarh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Friday that if Congress comes to power again in the state, then like Bihar, caste census will be conducted in the state.

"I announce that if Congress forms the government again in Chhattisgarh, then like Bihar, we will also conduct caste census in the state," Priyanka Gandhi said at a public event in Kanker in poll-bound Chhattisgarh.

The Bihar government released caste survey data showing that Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) together constitute 63 percent of the state's population.
