If you are a customer of SBI then this news is important for you. State Bank of India, the country's largest government bank, has changed its rules. In such a situation, if you have taken this service, then your pocket will be hit hard. Customers who have availed of locker service in SBI will have to pay more.

A special notification has been issued by the bank for the customers having lockers in the bank. In order to comply with the directions of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), SBI has requested all locker holders to visit their respective bank branches. Instructions have been given to sign the new locker contract at the earliest. The announcement was made through a tweet from the bank, and customers should read it before signing up for the new contract.

RBI has directed all banks to ensure that at least 50% of locker holders sign the new agreement by June 30, 2023. All banks are required to provide the necessary details to their customers. The locker information should also be available on the bank's portal.

Locker charges for SBI customers will depend on the size and location of the locker. Small and medium-sized lockers will be charged Rs 500 including GST as applicable. Whereas, bigger lockers will have to pay Rs 1000 plus the GST registration fee.

For small lockers in urban or metro cities, SBI customers will have to pay Rs 2,000 plus GST. A medium-sized locker in urban or metro cities would cost Rs 4,000 plus GST. 8,000 plus GST will be charged from customers buying larger size lockers in big and metro cities. In small towns or rural areas, the charge for a small locker will be Rs 1,500, apart from GST.
