New Traffic Challan Payment Rules: Digital-Only Transactions from March 1

Starting March 1, 2025, traffic challans in Goa can no longer be paid in cash. The Goa Police Traffic Cell has decided to transition to a fully digital payment system, making transactions more efficient and transparent for vehicle owners.

No More Cash Payments – Digital-Only Transactions

The Goa Police Traffic Cell announced that fines imposed under the Motor Vehicles Act and related rules will now be payable exclusively through online or digital methods. This move is aimed at streamlining the payment process and promoting cashless transactions.

How to Pay Traffic Challans Under the New Rules

Under the updated system, vehicle owners and traffic rule violators will have two options to pay their challans:

  1. QR Code Payment – The e-challan machine will generate a QR code that drivers can scan to make an instant online payment.
  2. Online Portal – An official government website will be available for users to conveniently pay their fines.

Encouraging Digital Payments for Better Transparency

This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of a digital economy and aims to reduce the possibility of fraud and errors in challan payments. By eliminating cash transactions, the system becomes more efficient, secure, and transparent.

Important Advisory for Drivers

All drivers in Goa are advised to be aware of these new rules and ensure that they use only digital modes of payment for traffic fines. The Transport Department has already successfully implemented digital payments in its enforcement section, and now the Goa Police Traffic Cell is following suit.

With this transition, challan payments will be faster, safer, and more convenient for all road users in Goa.
