Old UPI ID Risk: Old UPI ID can cause huge losses
Old UPI ID Risk: Online transactions have increased rapidly in the country, and UPI payments have the largest share in them. From roadside fruit vendors to big stores, people are transacting through UPI everywhere. In fact, using UPI is considered very easy and safe. However, sometimes carelessness can prove costly. Many people create a new ID without deactivating their old UPI ID. Doing so can be risky, and the money in your account can vanish in no time. Now we are telling you how dangerous it can be to create a new ID without deactivating the old UPI ID.
It is necessary to close the old UPI ID
Many people create a new UPI ID after changing phones or for other reasons. Many people also believe that deleting an app deletes the UPI ID. This leads them to install a new payment app and start using a new ID. They are unaware that deleting an app or replacing a phone does not delete the UPI ID. Even if you uninstall an app, its UPI ID, linked accounts, UPI Lite, and auto-pay mandates remain active. These must be deleted or deactivated within the app.
Money will fly away in a jiffy
If your UPI ID is linked to a number that has become inactive, it can cause significant harm. Companies often reassign inactive numbers to other users after a certain period of time. If your UPI ID remains linked to it, the new user of the mobile number may begin receiving notifications and alerts. If this number falls into the hands of scammers, they could access your bank account through a SIM swap. Once they gain access, your money will be at risk.
It is important to keep these things in mind.
- If you're deleting the app or replacing your phone, delete your UPI ID first, delink your bank account, and deactivate your payment mandate.
- In case of a change of mobile number, get your new number updated from the bank.
- If you don't remember all your UPI IDs, check the NPCI website. You'll find all the IDs linked to your mobile number. This can also be done through your banking app.
