Following the controversy surrounding the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, lakhs of students across the country have been anxiously waiting for clarity regarding their future. Amid growing uncertainty, a major update has now emerged regarding the possible re-examination schedule for NEET UG 2026.
According to statements made by Abhishek Singh, Director General of the National Testing Agency, the revised examination date for NEET UG 2026 is expected to be announced within the next 7 to 10 days.
The announcement has brought some relief to students affected by the cancellation of the examination after allegations of a large-scale question paper leak surfaced.
No Additional Fee for Re-Exam
One of the biggest concerns among candidates was whether they would be required to pay the examination fee again for the fresh test.
NTA Director General Abhishek Singh clarified that students will not have to pay any additional fee to appear for the re-examination.
He also confirmed that new admit cards will be issued through the official NTA channels once the revised schedule is finalized.

“Entire Paper Was Not Leaked,” Says NTA
Addressing the controversy, Abhishek Singh stated that the entire NEET UG question paper was not leaked before the examination.
According to him, only a limited number of questions were allegedly circulated before the exam. He claimed that some candidates received PDF files on May 1 and May 2 containing questions that later appeared in the actual examination paper.
The NTA chief described the incident as a serious violation of the agency’s “zero tolerance policy” regarding examination integrity and malpractice.
How the Investigation Began
The NTA Director General revealed that on May 7, the agency received a complaint regarding a WhatsApp message allegedly containing questions matching the NEET UG exam paper.
Following the complaint, authorities reportedly began a detailed investigation in coordination with law enforcement agencies.
During the probe, officials allegedly found that questions circulated on May 2 and May 3 matched several questions from the final examination paper, strengthening suspicions of a leak.
Students Demand Transparency and Accountability
The controversy has sparked nationwide anger among students and parents. Many candidates spent years preparing for the medical entrance exam, often studying for long hours daily with hopes of securing admission into medical colleges.
Students and education experts are now demanding stronger security systems, transparency in the investigation, and strict punishment for those involved in the alleged leak.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns about the credibility of competitive examinations in India and the emotional pressure faced by students preparing for high-stakes entrance tests.
For now, millions of aspirants are waiting for the official re-exam announcement and hoping the next examination process will be conducted fairly and securely.
