Homes Burned, Shops Vandalized, Families Displaced
According to media reports, the migrants claim that their houses were vandalized and set on fire by mobs during the violence that erupted in Dhuliyan, one of the worst-affected areas. Videos and photos circulating online show the displaced families pleading for help, saying, "Modi ji, save us," and alleging that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has remained silent on their plight.
Death Toll and Police Injuries
The communal tension, which has been intensifying since April 10 due to opposition to the Waqf legislation, has already claimed three lives, while over 10 police personnel have been injured in the violence. Reports also indicate that numerous shops, homes, and vehicles were set ablaze in Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, and Malda.
Central Forces Deployed Amid Internet Ban
In response, the central government has deployed 1,600 troops, including 300 BSF personnel, across the violence-hit districts. 21 companies of paramilitary forces have been stationed, and Section 144 has been imposed. Authorities have also suspended internet services in several areas to curb the spread of inflammatory content and prevent further unrest.
Political Pressure Mounts
The incident has sparked national debate, with critics questioning the West Bengal government's handling of the situation. The displaced families have appealed directly to the Prime Minister and Home Minister, asking for urgent intervention to ensure their safety and rehabilitation.
As tensions continue to simmer in West Bengal, all eyes are now on both the state leadership and the central government, as the country waits to see how this crisis will be resolved.
