Modi Government Blocks 15 Pakistani YouTube Channels After Pahalgam Attack

In a major move following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Modi government has taken strong action against misinformation and provocative content coming from across the border. Acting on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, 15 Pakistani YouTube channels have been officially blocked in India.

According to government officials, these channels were found spreading inflammatory, communally sensitive material and false information targeted against India, its army, and its security agencies. The decision aims to safeguard national security and maintain communal harmony in the country.

List of Blocked YouTube Channels

The blocked YouTube channels include some well-known names from Pakistan such as:

  • Dawn News
  • Irshad Bhatti
  • Samaa TV
  • ARY News
  • BOL News
  • Raftaar
  • The Pakistan Reference
  • Geo News
  • Samaa Sports
  • GNN
  • Uzair Cricket
  • Umar Cheema Exclusive
  • Asma Shirazi
  • Muneeb Farooq
  • Suno News
  • Razi Nama

Each of these platforms was allegedly engaged in broadcasting misleading narratives, particularly following the tragic attack in Pahalgam.

Backdrop of the Decision

The action comes in the wake of the terror strike that occurred on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The attack resulted in the deaths of 26 people, most of whom were tourists. The gravity of the situation compelled the Ministry of Home Affairs to recommend stringent steps against sources of misinformation that could fuel tensions within the country.

Additionally, the Indian government has sent a formal communication to BBC, objecting to a report that referred to terrorists as "militants." This indicates a firm stance against any narratives that could misrepresent the nature of terrorist activities impacting India.

Why the Channels Were Blocked

Officials emphasized that the blocked channels were responsible for spreading communal disharmony and misleading the public with fake news, especially in the sensitive environment following the Pahalgam incident. The government stressed that ensuring the integrity of information and protecting societal peace is a top priority in today's digital era, where false narratives can easily create unrest.

Through this move, the Indian government has sent a clear message: any attempt to disrupt national unity, be it internal or external, will face decisive and firm action.
