Middle East tensions impact tech industry...

Middle East Conflict Tech Industry Impact: The effects of the war in West Asia are now being felt in the tech industry. For security reasons, the world's largest cloud companies are preparing to move their data infrastructure from Gulf countries.

Companies like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure are downsizing some of their critical data operations located in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Oman. Instead, these companies are turning to safer countries like India and Singapore to house servers and data center operations.

Heavy damage caused by the attacks

The ongoing dispute between Iran and Israel is prompting tech companies to relocate to safer locations. On March 2, drone attacks struck AWS in the United Arab Emirates and a data center in Bahrain.

The extent of the attack's damage can be gauged from the fact that local banking apps stopped working within a short time. Technical glitches even forced the UAE stock market to shut down. Airports in Dubai and Kuwait also faced disruptions.

Services affected, advice to shift data

The rising tensions in the Middle East appear to be impacting cloud services as well. According to official Amazon data, many of its services in the region have either been completely shut down or their functionality has been significantly impacted.

There have also been reports that a Microsoft Azure facility in Tehran has been targeted. In light of this situation, companies have advised their customers to immediately relocate their data from the Middle East to safer regions.

Companies are looking for opportunities in India

In the technology world, the distance to a data center directly impacts internet speed. If servers are located far away, websites and apps slow down. Companies, especially those with sensitive services like banking, require secure locations near the Gulf region.

For this reason, many companies are now exploring new options in India. Cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi are being considered for data center locations.
