Serious allegations of dowry harassment, physical assault, and attempted sexual violence have surfaced against the family of a prominent BSP leader. The victim, who is the niece of former UP Chief Minister Mayawati, has sought justice after being allegedly ignored by the police.
Hapur, Uttar Pradesh: In a deeply disturbing case, a woman—identified as the niece of BSP supremo and former Chief Minister Mayawati—has accused her in-laws of dowry harassment, domestic abuse, and sexual assault. Following repeated pleas to local police that went unanswered, a court in Hapur has now ordered the registration of an FIR against seven named individuals, including her husband and father-in-law.
Allegations of Dowry and Abuse
The victim, a resident of Inderpuri South, Delhi, was married on November 9, 2023, to Vishal Singh, a resident of Bank Colony, Hapur. According to her complaint, her in-laws, including her mother-in-law Pushpa Devi, who is currently the Municipal President of Hapur Nagar Palika, and her father-in-law Shripal Singh, a BSP leader, began demanding a flat and ₹50 lakh shortly after the wedding.
The woman alleges that pressure was mounted on her to procure the money and property from her aunt, Mayawati. On resisting these demands, she claims she was subjected to physical violence and threats by her husband and in-laws.
Impotency and Forced Relationship Allegation
In an even more disturbing revelation, the complainant stated that her husband, allegedly impotent due to steroid abuse, pressured her to conceive a child through a physical relationship with her brother-in-law, Bhupendra alias Monu. She further accused both her brother-in-law and father-in-law of attempting to sexually assault her, claiming they beat her severely when she resisted on the night of February 17, 2025.
Fight for Justice and Police Inaction
After escaping from her in-laws’ residence, the woman approached the SP’s office on March 21, following earlier attempts to register a complaint at the local police station. However, no action was initially taken by law enforcement.
Frustrated by the silence, she moved to court seeking intervention. On the court's directive, a formal case has now been registered under various sections, including charges of dowry harassment, assault, and attempted rape.
Police Statement
Kotwali in-charge Inspector Munish Pratap Singh confirmed the court-mandated FIR and assured a fair and unbiased investigation. "The case will be thoroughly investigated, and action will be taken as per the law," he stated.
