Stock Market News: The domestic stock market slipped after hitting an all-time high on Thursday and finally closed almost flat. The 30-share BSE Sensex closed with a slight gain of 111 points, while the NSE Nifty 50 also ended the session with a gain of 10 points. During trading, the Sensex at one point jumped 446.35 points to reach a new record high of 86,055.86.

The Sensex's previous all-time high was 85,978.25 on September 27, 2024. The Nifty also rose 105.15 points during the session to reach a new peak of 26,310.45, but ultimately closed at 26,215.55, a gain of just 10.25 points (0.04%). The Nifty's previous record high was also on September 27, 2024, when it reached 26,277.35.

This was the second consecutive trading session in which the market saw gains. On Wednesday, the Sensex had gained 1,022.50 points and the Nifty 320.50 points. Among Sensex companies, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finserv, HCL Tech, and HDFC Bank were the biggest gainers on Thursday. On the other hand, Maruti, Eternal, UltraTech Cement, and SBI saw declines.

In a volatile session, the Nifty and Sensex temporarily hit new records, but gains were limited in the second half due to increased profit-booking, said Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Investments Ltd. The BSE small-cap index fell 0.38%, while the mid-cap index slipped 0.01%.

According to Ponmudi R., CEO of Enrich Money, expectations of interest rate cuts in the US have improved global risk appetite, which has benefited the Indian markets.

According to stock market data, on Wednesday, foreign investment (FIIs) bought shares worth ₹4,778.03 crore, while foreign investment (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹6,247.93 crore. So far this calendar year, the Sensex has gained 7,581.37 points (9.70%) and the Nifty has gained 2,570.75 points (10.87%).

Asian markets—South Korea's Kospi, Japan's Nikkei, China's Shanghai Composite, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng—closed in positive territory. European markets were slightly higher in afternoon trading. US markets also closed higher on Wednesday. Meanwhile, global benchmark Brent crude fell 0.05% to $63.10 per barrel.
