LPG Subsidy Alert: Complete Aadhaar Biometric Authentication Before October 1 to Avoid Payment Issues

Domestic LPG consumers who receive a subsidy should check whether their Aadhaar-based biometric authentication has been completed. According to the latest government update cited in the report, consumers whose verification is still pending have been advised to finish the process before October 1, 2026, to avoid potential problems in receiving subsidy benefits.
The requirement is particularly important for households using subsidised domestic LPG connections. However, failure to complete biometric authentication does not necessarily mean that a consumer will stop receiving cooking gas altogether. Consumers may still be able to purchase LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy, subject to the prescribed process.
Nearly 90% of Active LPG Consumers Have Completed Verification
According to government figures mentioned in the report, around 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, representing approximately 89.9% of the total, have already completed Aadhaar-based biometric authentication.
Consumers who have successfully completed the verification do not need to repeat the process. Their LPG booking and related services are expected to continue as usual.
Those who have not yet completed authentication, however, have been advised to do so before October 1 if they want to avoid possible interruptions or complications related to subsidised LPG benefits.
How to Complete LPG Aadhaar Biometric Authentication
Consumers have multiple ways to complete the verification process, meaning a separate visit to the LPG distributor may not always be necessary.
Authentication can be completed when the LPG cylinder is delivered, using the authorised mobile application available with the delivery representative. Consumers can also visit their LPG distributor's showroom and complete the required verification there.
Another option is to use the official mobile application of the respective oil marketing company (OMC). Depending on the LPG provider, consumers can use the relevant official digital platform to complete the process from home.
Indane customers can use the IndianOil ONE app, Bharatgas customers can access the HelloBPCL platform, while HP Gas consumers can use the HP PAY app for supported services.
Consumers should use only official OMC apps and authorised channels while completing Aadhaar-related procedures and should avoid sharing OTPs, banking credentials or other sensitive information with unknown callers or links.
Will LPG Supply Stop Without Biometric Authentication?
Consumers who do not want to undergo biometric Aadhaar authentication, or who are unable to complete it for some reason, can still continue purchasing LPG, according to the report.
Such consumers will need to register their preference through the digital channels offered by their respective oil marketing company. These channels may include the company's mobile application, WhatsApp chatbot, IVRS or other authorised facilities.
In such cases, LPG would be supplied without the subsidy at the prevailing market price. Consumers may also have the option of purchasing 5-kg or 10-kg cylinders, depending on availability in their area.
Therefore, the October requirement should not be interpreted as an automatic end to LPG supply for every consumer who has not completed biometric authentication. The key impact concerns eligibility and access to subsidised LPG under the applicable system.
Biometric Authentication Deadline Was Extended Earlier
The Aadhaar biometric verification exercise has been underway for some time. The initial deadline for completing the process was June 30, 2026. Consumers were subsequently given additional time through multiple extensions, with September 14, 2026 cited as the later deadline.
The government has been encouraging LPG customers to complete the exercise since October 2023. According to the figures cited in the report, more than 12 crore SMS and WhatsApp messages have been sent to consumers as part of the awareness campaign.
LPG distributors, cylinder delivery personnel and special authentication camps have also been used to encourage customers to complete the process.
How Much Support Is the Government Providing on Domestic LPG?
The report also provides an indication of the financial support associated with domestic cooking gas.
According to the government figures cited, the difference between the actual cost and selling price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder amounted to an implicit subsidy of around Rs 210 per cylinder in September 2026. The corresponding amount was reported to have reached approximately Rs 721 per cylinder in June 2026.
The government had also provided Rs 22,000 crore as compensation to oil marketing companies in FY 2022-23. The report states that Rs 30,000 crore is being provided across FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27.
These figures underline the financial support involved in keeping domestic LPG prices below their underlying cost during periods of elevated energy prices.
What LPG Consumers Should Do Before October 1
Consumers receiving subsidised domestic LPG should first verify whether their Aadhaar biometric authentication has already been completed. Those who have finished the process do not need to authenticate again.
Customers whose verification remains incomplete should use their LPG provider's official app, distributor, authorised delivery personnel or another approved channel to complete it before October 1, 2026.
For assistance related to LPG services, consumers can contact the toll-free helpline at 1800 2333 555.
Most importantly, consumers should distinguish between LPG supply and subsidy eligibility. Based on the information in the report, incomplete biometric authentication may create difficulties in receiving subsidised LPG benefits, but consumers who opt out of authentication can continue purchasing LPG without subsidy at the applicable market price.
