LoC Firing: Pakistan Fires on Ninth Consecutive Night, Indian Army Responds Effectively

Amid rising tensions following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Pakistan has once again resorted to firing along the Line of Control (LoC). On the night of May 2-3, 2025, Pakistani forces fired upon Indian positions along the LoC in Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors, using small arms without any provocation. The Indian Army immediately responded with appropriate countermeasures. This marks the ninth consecutive night of firing by Pakistan along the LoC.

Civilians Prepare for Possible Escalation

In response to the ongoing hostilities, civilians residing near the LoC and International Border (IB) are preparing for possible escalation. Many have begun cleaning and maintaining their community and private bunkers to seek refuge in case the firing intensifies. The central government had approved the construction of 14,460 bunkers in 2017, of which 8,600 are now complete in regions such as Samba, Kathua, Jammu, Poonch, and Rajouri. These areas are witnessing continued efforts to clear agricultural land, with Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch still working to finish their harvests, despite the ongoing tension.

Ceasefire Violation on the Eighth Night

Earlier, on the night of May 1-2, Pakistan violated the ceasefire again by firing at Jammu and Kashmir's five bordering districts. This marked the eighth consecutive night of such incidents. The Indian Army had also responded decisively during these exchanges. The increase in cross-border firing comes in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which has heightened the already tense relations between the two nations.

Rising Tensions and Continued Cross-Border Firing

A defense spokesperson from Jammu stated, "On the night of May 1-2, Pakistani military posts fired small arms across the LoC in Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor sectors. Indian soldiers provided a fitting response."

The continuous violations reflect the rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, with both nations on edge after the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
