Every year World Environment Day is celebrated internationally in June. A date has been fixed to celebrate this special day. Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June all over the world including India. History of Environment Day
The foundation of celebrating Environment Day was laid in 1972 when the United Nations celebrated the first Environment Day and announced to celebrate this day every year.
Why is Environment Day celebrated on 5 June only?
The first environment conference was celebrated on 5 June 1972, in which 119 countries participated. The conference was held in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The United Nations General Assembly designated 5 June as Environment Day, marking the first day of the Stockholm Conference on Human Environment.
Importance of Environment Day
Pollution is spreading rapidly all over the world including India. Nature is in danger due to increasing pollution. Nature provides every necessary thing for any living being to live. In such a situation, if nature is affected, life will be affected. Environment Day was started to protect nature from pollution.
On this day people are made aware of the environment and are inspired to save nature from getting polluted.
The theme of Environment Day 2024
Every year World Environment Day has a special theme. Last year i.e. the theme of World Environment Day 2023 was "Solutions to Plastic Pollution". This theme is based on the solution to plastic pollution. This year the theme of World Environment Day 2024 is "Land Restoration, Desertification And Drought Resilience". The focus of this theme is on land restoration, desertification, and drought under the slogan 'Our Land'.
