Diabetes has emerged as a major health risk in the last few decades. People of all ages, from children to youth and adults to the elderly, are found to be victims of this disease. According to statistics, more than 500 million (50 crore) people worldwide are suffering from diabetes and this number is expected to more than double to 130 crore in the next 30 years.

Diabetes is the main cause of many other serious diseases in the body, given that health experts appeal to all people to take special precautions regarding this disease. World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on 14 November to alert people about the increasing risks of diabetes and increase awareness among people about its prevention.

Health experts say that the problems related to our lifestyle and diet are the main reasons for the increasing cases of diabetes, for which everyone should take special precautions from an early age. Let us know which factors are considered responsible for this serious disease, prevention from which becomes very important.

Being overweight is dangerous for you
Overweight or obesity is considered a factor in many serious health problems, it also increases the risk of diabetes. Studies have found that you can also reduce your risk of diabetes if you ever make an effort to lose weight. Losing 5 to 10% of body weight in addition to regular physical activity can significantly reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

Risk even if you remain physically inactive
Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for both pre-diabetes and type-2 diabetes. Regular physical activity helps reduce insulin resistance. This means your body can use its insulin more effectively. Aiming for 30 minutes of exercise at least five days a week significantly reduces the risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Research has found that people who spend most of their day sitting may have a higher risk of diabetes.

Big role of diet
The role of diet becomes very important in preventing diabetes. Healthy food in the right amounts is important for you. People who consume high amounts of trans fat, cholesterol, and sodium (salt), red and processed meat, carbohydrates, and sugary foods may have a higher risk of developing diabetes.

To reduce the risk of this disease, health experts recommend consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish, nuts, and seeds.

Alcohol and smoking are your enemies
Alcohol and smoking not only increase liver and lung problems, they are also a major risk factor for diabetes. Excessive alcohol consumption can cause inflammation of the pancreas and affect its ability to produce adequate insulin. Alcohol damages the liver which is necessary for the production of insulin.

Similarly, smoking increases the risk of inflammation in the body, which can lead to diabetes and its serious complications.
