Who should not eat water chestnut?

  • Water chestnut contains Vitamin K which is important for blood clotting. However, its consumption is a matter of great concern for those who are taking blood thinners. If you are taking blood-thinning medicines, then you must consult your doctor before eating water chestnuts.

  • Water chestnuts contain high amounts of fibre. Despite this, it may cause digestive discomfort for people with sensitive stomachs or gastrointestinal problems. Those suffering from IBS are advised to be cautious while eating water chestnuts. A sudden increase in dietary fibre can cause stomach pain and gas.

Diabetic patients are not advised to eat water chestnuts, as it has a high glycemic index. Which can potentially lead to a rapid increase in blood sugar levels.
