If you are 18 years or above, you must be voting. Sometimes for the councilor of his area, sometimes for electing his MP, etc. In such a situation, you will need a voter ID card i.e. identity card for voting. Voter ID cards are made by the Election Commission of India for people who are 18 years or older, which we also call identity cards. But suppose if someone has two voter ID cards, then what will happen? Is there any rule regarding this? This question has come into the limelight because Delhi's Tis Hazari court issued a summons to Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, for possessing voter ID cards of two different constituencies. So let's know what are the rules regarding having more than one voter ID card. You can learn about this in the next slides...
What is the rule?
In the petition filed by Delhi BJP secretary Harish Khurana in the court, he stated that keeping voter ID cards of more than one region is a violation of section 17.
If you are found guilty of this, you can be jailed for up to one year.
Two reasons for having two voter ID cards:-
The first reason may be that many people have an identity card at the old address, but then when they shift to a new house, they get an identity card made at that address as well. However, they use the same voter ID card
At the same time, the second reason behind this is that many voters deliberately get two voter ID cards made, which is ignoring the rules of the Election Commission of India.
What to do if you have two voter ID cards?
If you also have two Voter ID cards, then you can avoid legal trouble by using one method. For some reason, if you also have two voter ID cards, then you can get it corrected on your own free will.
For this, you have to fill out Form No. 7 and then submit it to the office of the Election of India. Apart from this, you can also submit this form to the office of BLO, SDM.
These would be the advantages: -
If you take the help of Form 7 if you have more than one voter ID card, then it saves you from getting into legal trouble.
Can help prevent electoral fraud
Vote can be put to proper use.
