My elder sister is very fond of sarees. She is adding to the glory of her wardrobe by collecting sarees from every province of India. Be it any occasion, she prefers to wear a saree. He has many popular fabrics like Kanchivaram, Banarasi, Chanderi, Bandhani etc. She also knows how to keep her sarees with great care, but most of us women would not be able to because we do not know how to keep them.

Now there is a fabric like Tant, which is a popular Bengali saree. It is known for its lightweight. It is a very fine fabric, which can get damaged quickly if not kept properly. Let us know how to keep and wash it properly.

Fibre fabric is different from other fabrics

Its weaving method is very different. Cotton threads can be cleaned and chemically treated, dried in the sun, and then bleached. After this, they are dipped in boiling coloured water. These are made durable by soaking them in stars. These threads are wound in bamboo drums.

Large unique designs are also made on the pallu, border and body of the Tant saree. Their designs are first made on soft cardboard and then transferred to the weave.

Washcloth sarees like this

  • If you are washing the cotton saree for the first time, then first soak it in lukewarm water. Mix rock salt in water and soak the saree in it for 20 minutes. This helps in softening the fabric. When the fibres are soft, it will be easier for you to wear them next time.
  • Do not use harsh detergents to wash fibre sarees. Very mild detergent should be used for this. Also, keep in mind that after washing it, never dry it in the hot sun.
  • To maintain the shine of the saree, mix starch in half a bucket of water and soak the saree in it for some time. After this, dry it in partial sunlight, so that the starch can dry. By doing this, the shine of the saree will return.

How to polish Tant saree-

Whether you wash it at home or send it to the dry cleaners, it loses its shine. In such a situation, they are polished to get their shine. The way to polish a saree is very easy and you can polish it with the help of vinegar.

What to do-

Pour 2 litres of lukewarm water into a bucket and then add 1/2 cup vinegar, rock salt and mix. Now put the saree in it and soak it for 10 minutes. After this, wash the saree 4-5 times in cold water and dry it. The saree will also shine and if you are afraid of discolouration that too will not happen.

How to store Tant saree?

  • If you haven't washed the saree for a long time, keep it in a shaded place where it can get some air, before putting it in the cupboard.
  • Apart from this, the Tant saree should never be kept in a plastic cover. Always keep the string folded in a fabric bag or brown paper.
  • If you have placed the saree in between the naphthalene balls, be careful not to get the balls on the fabric. This may stain the saree. If you must keep naphthalene balls, keep them sealed in a small pouch.

On the other hand, if your saree is stained, do not rub it. Try to clean it immediately and dry it and keep it in the cupboard. You can also try these tips and take care of your saree.
