The Shammi plant has great importance in Vastushastra. Planting a Shammi tree in the home is considered highly auspicious, as it is believed to attract prosperity, happiness, and good fortune. Like the Tulsi plant, worshiping the Shammi plant is also considered very auspicious.

The religious importance of the Shammi plant:

Like the Tulsi plant, the Shammi plant also has religious and medicinal importance. Like the Tulsi plant, the Shammi plant also absorbs negative energy from its surroundings and promotes the circulation of positive energy. According to mythology, in Ramayana, Lord Rama worshiped the Shammi tree before attacking Lanka. In the Mahabharata, the Pandavas hid their weapons in the Shammi tree during their exile.

Planting the Shammi tree in the house removes negativity and brings happiness, peace, and prosperity. According to Vastu, planting a Shammi tree in the house removes Vastu defects and is also believed to remove marriage-related obstacles. It is said that the presence of the Shammi tree reduces the adverse effects of Saturn (Shani Dosh). Shammi is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva and it is believed that worshiping the Shammi plant brings blessings of Lord Shiva. The leaves of the Shammi tree are used in the worship of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Durga.

Where to plant Shammi tree at home:

According to Vastu principles, the Shammi tree should be planted in the south direction. Shammi plants should never be planted inside the house. Instead, it should be planted in open places like the main entrance, garden, terrace, or balcony. Planting the Shammi tree on the right side of the main entrance is considered extremely auspicious. When planted at the main entrance, the Shammi tree should face the right side while exiting the house.

If the Shammi tree is being planted on the terrace then it should be planted in the south direction. If this is not possible, it can also be installed in the east direction. Saturday is considered auspicious for planting the Shammi tree. Like Tulsi, it is advisable to worship the Shammi plant regularly and light a lamp under it. If it is not possible to light a lamp every day, then a lamp should be lit under the Shammi tree every Saturday.
