Everyone wants a perfect smile. However, yellow teeth and bad breath also spoil our confidence. Cosmetic dentists can use whitening strips or liquids to remove stains from your teeth, but the process is more expensive. Apart from this, we must have also tried many home remedies for teeth whitening on the internet, but it is not necessary that all of them would have worked.
Ayurvedic doctor DeekshaBhavsar often shares health-related information on her Instagram handle. She has also shared some tips to get an oral cavity and white teeth. She says, 'If you are tired of using baking soda, lemon, salt, orange peel, banana peel and whatnot for white teeth, then you should try Ayurvedic methods. I am going to share with you the 5 most effective and natural remedies, which will help you, maintain your dental hygiene and get whiter teeth at the same time.'
1. Oil Pulling
Swirling oil in the mouth is called oil pulling. This practice helps to remove germs from the gums and teeth. It helps in removing mouth ulcers. It also exercises the muscles of the mouth, thereby strengthening and toning them.
Method to do-
Use sesame/mustard or coconut oil. Swish it in the mouth for 15-20 minutes and spit it out.
2. Brush your teeth with neem and acacia
These herbs are anti-microbial. Chewing them releases anti-bacterial agents that help maintain oral health.
Method to do-
Choose a branch that is about as thick as your little finger. To make it like a brush, chew on one corner and spit into the basin at frequent intervals. Brush it all over the gums and teeth. After you're done, spit out the twig fibres stuck on the teeth.
3. Tongue scraping
Best for cleaning the oral cavity and removing all the toxins that lead to the growth of bacteria that lead to plaque build-up.
Method to do-
Scrape your tongue several times with a copper or stainless steel tongue scraper.
4. Herbal Mouth Rinse
A decoction of Triphala or Yashtimadhu acts as an excellent mouth rinser. Apart from maintaining oral hygiene, exercise helps in reducing mouth ulcers.
Method to do-
Boil Triphala or Yashtimadhu in water till the water remains half. Let it cool down. Wash off when it is lukewarm.
5. Brushing twice a day
It is important to brush every time after eating, especially after eating sticky foods like chocolate. Since brushing teeth 4-5 times a day is impossible, brushing them twice (first thing in the morning and last thing before sleeping) are the least we can do.
DrDeeksha also tells its seven 2 such rules, which we should follow. She says, 'Remember 2 things- one white tooth doesn't happen overnight and second you have to follow these practices regularly.'
