Earthquake alerts will be available on Android phone
Google has released a new feature for its Android operating system. Google has said that smartphones can give earlier alerts about earthquakes. According to Google, sensors like accelerators of Android smartphones can detect upcoming earthquakes. These can be used as small seismometers. Google has named this feature of Android as Earthquake Alert System.

Help is being taken from the government
Google has said in a statement that it is in talks with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and National Seismology Center (NSC) to provide earthquake alerts on smartphones. This alert will be available in all the languages supported on the phone and in local Indian languages.

Google will send two types of alerts
Google will send two types of alerts for earthquakes. The first alert will be for a mild shock. If your phone is in Do Not Disturb mode then your phone will not ring after this alert arrives. The second alert will be for strong tremors. This alert will bypass the system and make the phone ring even when the phone is in Do Not Disturb mode. In this alert, people will also be told ways to avoid earthquakes.

How to turn on earthquake alert in your phone
To turn on the earthquake alert setting in your phone, go to the phone's settings and select the option of Safety & emergency and then turn on Earthquake alerts. Apart from this, Earthquake alerts can also be turned on by going to the location setting in the phone's settings and then from the Advanced setting.
