Beta users are getting a message in the app that linking your email will make it easier for you to access your account. This will not be visible to others. To link your e-mail ID, you will have to provide a verification code which will come on your e-mail.
After the new update, users will get the option to link e-mail in settings. After going to the settings, there will be an option to enter e-mail in the account section. Currently, it is being tested with iOS users of WhatsApp. After the account is linked, you can also get a code on your e-mail to log in to WhatsApp in the future.
