Idli-Dosa and Sambhar are liked by everyone. If you are also fond of South Indian style sambar, then you can try it at home by following this easy method.

Serves : 3

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup toor dal
  • a chopped tomato
  • a chopped onion
  • three drumstick pods
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 1/4 cup tamarind pulp
  • a piece of jaggery
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • one teaspoon mustard
  • a pinch of asafoetida
  • 3 tbsp sambar masala
  • 2-3 dry red chilies
  • a spoonful of oil
  • salt to taste

Method :

  • First, wash the tamarind and soak it in water for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Now wash and dry the tur dal well and put two cups of water, dal, chopped vegetables, and tamarind pulp in the pressure cooker.
  • After this add salt and turmeric as per taste in the cooker and let it cook for three to four whistles.
  • Now put boiled lentils in a pan and cook it and also add some water to it.
  • When the dal boils, add jaggery, and sambar powder and cook for another 10 minutes.
  • After this, put mustard seeds, red chilies, asafoetida, and curry leaves in a vessel for tempering.
  • After everything is roasted well, you can temper the sambar with it.
  • Finally, serve the sambar hot with idli or dosa.
