Skin problems may increase later due to the colours of Holi, but pollution in the air happens daily and it causes a lot of damage to our skin. Fine air particles stick to your skin and can make it dull and dry. Not only this, but these particles are also able to enter your pores and settle deep inside the skin.

Air pollutants damage your skin with free radicals, which leads to inflammation, dehydration, and collagen damage, weakening of the skin barrier, as well as spots and ageing. If you are someone who is often outdoors, then your skin needs some extra care.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr Jayshree Sharad lists some ways you can protect your skin from the effects of pollution. Let's read this article completely without delay and know the expert's tips.

How pollutants harm the skin

Several studies have linked pollution to a host of skin problems, including hives, acne, ageing problems, and inflammatory skin conditions like eczema. Pollutants pass through skin cell membranes and spread through the body. Once they enter the skin, they naturally reduce antioxidant levels causing oxidative stress.

Clean skin thoroughly

It is important to clean your face properly to keep your skin healthy when exposed to dirty air. This is why simple cleansing may not clear your skin. You must clean your skin thoroughly by deep cleansing.

Apply Vitamin-C serum

After cleaning your face, apply a serum containing vitamin-C, E and ferulic acid on your face. These are antioxidants that protect you from free radicals. Regular use of strong antioxidant ingredients, such as Vitamin C, will help keep away signs of oxidative stress such as dark spots, fine lines and sagging skin

Don't forget to apply moisturizer

Well-hydrated skin is healthy skin! The proper moisturization helps strengthen your skin's lipid barrier, which in turn protects it from environmental aggressors like pollutants in the air. Gel-based moisturizers with glycerin or dimethicone and hyaluronic acid are good options for your skin.

Must apply SPF

While sunscreens may not directly protect your skin from pollution, they play an important role in protecting you against pollution. Air pollutants can react with UV rays and turn into toxins which are very harmful to your skin.

Apply a thick layer of sunscreen to the entire face and neck and exposed areas of the body. Opt for a sunscreen that has more physical ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide etc.

Now you also protect your skin from pollution like dust and dirt in this way and keep in mind that you must wash your face thoroughly 2-3 times a day.

We hope this information will be useful for you and by adopting this routine, you too will get flawless skin.
