Significance Of Lighting Diya On Diwali: The festival of Diwali is considered the festival of light. The lighting of diyas is very important in this festival. Considered the festival of lights, this festival is one of the biggest festivals of the year as well as one of the biggest festivals celebrated in the country.

The Diwali festival mainly lasts for five days. In which the festival begins with Dhanteras and ends on the day of Bhai Dooj. There is a practice of lighting ideas mainly on Diwali.

It is believed that on the five-day festival of Deepawali, the first lamp is lit on the day of Dhanteras for Yamraj. It is believed that there is no premature death in the house where a lamp is donated on this day. Light 26 diyas on Dhanteras

There is a belief in astrology that on the evening of Dhanteras, 13 diyas should be lit at the main door and 13 diyas should be lit in every corner of the house as well. The total number of this diyas should be 26. By doing this Mata Lakshmi enters the house.

But when you make a lamp named after Yama, then keep in mind that this lamp should be lit while sleeping after all the family members come home and eat and drink. Use an old lamp to light this lamp. Add mustard oil to it. Keep this lamp outside the house facing south near the drain or garbage heap.

Light 5 diyas on Narak Chaturdashi

On the day of Narak Chaturdashi, there is a custom of lighting five diyas mainly in the house. One of these lamps should be placed at the place of worship of the house, the other in the kitchen, the third lamp in place of water, and the fourth lamp under the Peepal or Vat tree. At the same time, the fifth lamp must be lit at the main entrance of the house. The lamp to be lit at the main entrance of the house should be four-faced and four long lights should be lit in it.

  • The third day of the Diwali festival is called Deepawali which is considered to be the main festival. On this day especially Lakshmi Ganesh Puja is performed. According to mythological belief, Goddess Lakshmi appeared from the churning of the ocean on the new moon of Kartik month, which is considered a symbol of wealth, splendour, opulence and happiness and prosperity along with being the consort of Lord Vishnu.
  • On Diwali, lamps are lit mainly to welcome Goddess Lakshmi so that the atmosphere is illuminated by the lamps in the darkness of the new moon night. Light the first lamp on the night of Diwali during Lakshmi Puja.
  • Light the second lamp near Tulsi, the third one outside the main door, the fourth one under the peepal tree, the fifth one in a temple near the house, the sixth one in the waste place, the seventh one outside the bathroom, the eighth one on the mount, the ninth. Light the lamp around the walls, the tenth lamp near the window, the eleventh lamp at a crossroads.
  • It is believed that on the day of Diwali, apart from donating lamps for ancestors and Yama; do not forget to light a lamp in the name of Kul Devi.

Importance of diyas in Diwali

Lighting a diya is considered a symbol of goodness and purity and it is believed that diyas dispel darkness. Since Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day and there is darkness everywhere, lighting diyas is considered very auspicious.

By lighting a lamp on the day of Diwali, anger, greed and other vices are destroyed. The lamp is considered a symbol of good luck in the house. On this day, mainly by lighting lamps of ghee and mustard oil, the path of prosperity opens in the house.
