Disadvantages of eating too much salt
- Consuming more salt than necessary can make you a BP patient. Salt contains sodium and when you consume it in excess, it causes water to accumulate in the body. This puts pressure on the blood vessels and the blood pressure becomes high.
- When blood pressure increases due to consumption of salt, it also puts pressure on the heart. The heart has to work harder to pump blood. Due to this, the risk of heart diseases like heart attack and stroke increases.
- Consuming too much salt can cause water retention in the body which can cause swelling in hands and feet. This is known as oedema, especially around the fingers and toes.
- Consuming too much salt can cause calcium deficiency, which also weakens the bones. Later, it turns into a serious problem like osteoporosis. Due to this, the muscles are also affected.
- Consuming too much salt leads to excessive sweating and urine, which leads to problems like dehydration. Due to this, there is pressure on the kidneys and the functioning of the kidneys can also get impaired.
